chapter 9
The next morning, I was the first one up, I combed through my hair with the small combs provided for us, I went to the bucket of water and used the towel to wash myself. I looked in the dirty mirror, I looked horrible, but I wasn’t worried about that, I had my mind on other things. Oliver, Morte, the Diabolica, and if I was ever going to get out of this place. I was sitting on my bed and stared at the little wire that the old man had given me until I heard a knock on the door. I went over there, expecting our usual breakfast. The door creaked open and I saw that I was right, it was breakfast but someone else was delivering it, I jumped to realize that it was the same old man that had given me the wire and the flash drive.
“Hey!” I said, “Your--”
He slammed the door with my face, leaving me standing there with the tray of oatmeal. I stared at the door for a minute, wondering how this man could be here. I looked down at the tray and noticed something odd, there were tags on the bowls with our names on them, like they were special for each person. But how could they be special? They all looked the same. I sighed and set the tray on the table, I picked up my bowl and started to eat. I was somehow very hungry, so I ate more than usual. When the bowl was about one-fourth full of oatmeal, my spoon hit something hard. I curiously tried to scoop the object out with my spoon, but it kept slipping. I eventually just reached in there and pulled it out with my hands. I wiped it off a bit and saw that it was a key. I gasped and immediately covered it up with my hands so that the security cameras wouldn’t see.
“Hey, guys! Wake up! Breakfast!” I called out.
They all groaned and slowly got up and rubbed their eyes. They all walked over to the table.
“Hey, why are our names on these?” Sky asked.
“Umm, I don’t know...” I said, timidly.
Everyone looked suspiciously at the bowls, but ate them anyway. When Patrick was done, looked down at his bowl, confused. I wondered if he had found something too.
“Guys, come here.” He hissed.
We all gathered around. He was holding a folded, laminated piece of paper with writing on it. Patrick unfolded it and held it up for us to read. It said:
I am giving you instruction on how to escape and save the young boy. If you follow my instructions exactly, you will be successful. First, you must gather your belongings and open the door. I have given Wintergreen Fish the key.
Everyone looked at me and I nodded.
You must twist the key four times to the left until you hear a clicking sound. Then you must swing the door open as fast as you can and run. But there is a place you must go. As soon as you exit the room, go right, down the hall, it will be dark, but I have given Natalie Stonehaven a small flashlight.
Natalie looked down at her oatmeal and pulled out a plastic bag with a small keychain flashlight in it.
Look on the left hand side of you and when you find the 6th door, you must unlock it in the same fashion as before, I have given Victor Smith the key for this door.
We all looked at Victor, who held up a key much like mine.
The room you will enter is the room that Morte likes to call his ‘Warehouse’, it is a giant room full of shelves, there will be boxes on these shelves, these are the boxes with the memory hard drives. You must find the one with the name of Oliver Sharp written on it. You must take this box and immediately exit the room. You must go to and unlock the room three doors to the right. Amanda Brown will have the key to this room
